Information about GT Testing
If you would like for your child to be tested for the Gifted and Talented program, we can accept nominations at anytime. You can ask for a GT nomination packet at the front office. We will be scheduling a date for new nominees to be tested after we have completed all STAAR testing for the year.
Children who previously were tested and did not receive a recommendation for the program, may re-test after 90 business days. Then once a year afterwards.
Current GT Identified Students
Students who have been recommended for the Gifted and Talented program by the GT committee can receive services as soon as parents give consent. In grades K-3, students will be pulled out of their home rooms and receive specialized instruction delivered in thematic units by the teacher of record in their grade level.
In grades 4-5, students will participate in the school wide enrichment program. They will be provided with differentiated instruction and assignments to meet their academic needs.
Students will not receive a grade on their report cards for their GT participation. However, they will receive a progress report to be sent home at the same time as their report cards.
GT Parent Advisory Council Meetings
All parents of GT students are invited to attend a monthly informational meeting. The Gifted and Talented Parent Advisory Council will be meeting again on April 18, 2016 in the Moye Elementary Multipurpose Room and again on May 24, 2016 at the Hornedo Middle School Cafeteria. GTPAC meetings are held from 5:30-7:00 PM. The first half of the meeting will be informational, you can get information about the programs our school district has to offer gifted and talented students in elementary, middle and high school. The second half will be the GTPAC meeting.
This is a GREAT way to network and meet other parents of Gifted and Talented students throughout our school district.
